How do I update this dated kitchen for a small budget?

older kitchen that needs updating but can only afford paint ideas

Case Study this homeowner wants to update this space, but doesn’t have the funds to fully remodel the kitchen.

Here is what we see:

Warms and cools clashing.  Typically when trying to brighten an older space, they get the color tones wrong. Bright white paint with cool blue paint, and silver light fixtures pushing out a very bright white light don’t work in this kitchen.

Design Solutions:

Paint is always your friend if you know how to choose the tones correctly. We suggested Sherwin Williams Shoji White – a great neutral white that pulls warmer but is still bright. We also recommend testing the paint in the room before purchasing.

We anchored the space with black which can be very grounding and connects elements with a classic vibe, while echoing the black on the appliances. Adding a  black back door also adds depth and connection. We did offer a splurge feature of adding can lights, because they always provide great light and a clean look in a kichen. Cladding the bench in wood, also brings in another grounding element. We would finish off this space with plants and decor and soft roman shades in the windows. A little paint and some updates takes this loved and a little worn space to a home you can enjoy until the funds to remodel arrive.
